Energy Efficency Boilers

Is Your Boiler Only 60% Efficient?

Let Viscount Help you Save Money with A More Efficient Boiler!

Choosing a boiler for your property can be a daunting task:

  • Which type of system?
  • What size do I need?
  • What is the back-up like?
  • How can I find an installer?

Efficiency

  • If your boiler is over 15 years old and your annual fuel bill is high, you might want to consider getting a new one installed. Boilers over 15 years old are often only around 60 per cent efficient (G rated or less), which means that for every pound spent on fuel, 40p is wasted. New condensing boilers are over 90% efficient and are A rated for efficiency, so not only do they reduce your bills but are better for the environment!
  • All newly installed boilers must be the energy efficient condensing type to meet with current legislation.
  • Choose quality heating controls - good heating controls, including a thermostat and auto-timer switches such as compensating room thermostats, will allow you to adjust the level of heat required, thus improving the efficiency of the heating system, and cutting high fuel costs.

Heating requirements

  • Ask your installer to assess your current and future heating and hot water demands – for example, if you are considering converting your loft or building an extension in the future, your requirements will change so it is worth taking this into account when investing in a new heating and hot water system.
  • Make sure your installer has checked that your water main usage is large enough to deliver adequate water to the boiler while the toilet is being flushed or the washing machine is in use.
  • If you are undertaking a separately contained loft conversion, which will require its own heating and hot water supply, a combination or ‘combi’ boiler is the best option. This will not only heat the room but provides instant hot water without the need for a tank. However, if you are looking at a heating system to supply the entire house, you are more likely to require a system boiler.

Viscount Home Insulation Services

Grants Available For Everyone

Around 44% of a homeowner’s utility bill is spent on keeping their house warm. This can be reduced by up to 50% by taking certain steps. ‘Home insulation’ refers to a number of construction processes designed to prevent the loss of thermal energy from your home, which reduces heating costs. Effective insulation not only prevents heat from escaping the home, but also prevents it from getting too warm in summer.

By installing Cavity Wall Insulation you could save upto £115 per year and by installing Loft Insulation you could save upto £150 per year which, gives you a grand saving of £265 per year!!! (figures taken from Energy Savings Trust).

The UK government provides a number of grants to fund the installation of loft insulation and cavity wall insulation. Insulation grants are available to everyone, not just people on benefits. These grants mean that any home can be professionally insulated. Home insulation reduces heating costs, and provides homeowners with long-term ongoing savings.

Cavity Wall Insulation

Cavity Wall Insulation helps your home retain heat by reducing the amount lost through the external walls. By filling the gap between your two outer layers with an insulating material, we can reduce the heat lost by up to 35%. In new buildings, this is done during the construction of the home, but in older buildings can be done post-construction with a special injection gun.

Loft Insulation

Loft insulation is a quick and easy-to-install process which can significantly reduce the amount of heat needed to keep a home warm. By laying insulation material on the floor of the loft, rising heat can be made to stay inside the building. Viscount's professional home insulation installers ensure that applying loft insulation to the home is a quick, affordable, and non-disruptive process.
Energy Performance Certifications

All homes sold in the UK now require an Energy Performance Certificate. This shows the home's current and potential energy efficiency, informing potential buyers about the likely heating cost of the home. This is a legal requirement for all homes sold, except in exceptional circumstances. Viscount is able to carry out these assessments at discounted prices, ensuring that your home meets all current regulations.

Renewable Energy

By installing Renewable Energy Systems you can save money on your energy bills and help fight climate change.

At Viscount we specialise in installing Solar Heating Systems, Air Source Heat Pumps and Ground Source Heat Pumps. These technologies provide a rapid return on investment by dramatically reducing your heating bills.

Solar Heating Systems

Solar Heating captures energy generated from daylight, Solar Panels are installed into your home to capture energy created by the sun.  By installing a Solar Heating System into your home you can generate enough solar energy to heat 70% of your hot water and reduce your carbon emissions by upto 0.75 tonnesClick Here to Find Out More

Air Source Heat Pumps

An air source heat pump extracts heat from the outside air in order to warm your home and reduce your heating bills.  Even when outside temperatures are as low as minus 15° C. the Air Source Heat Pump can still extract heat from the air, as with a fridge the Air Source Heat Pump extracts heat from its inside.  The Air Source Heat Pump heats your water and your home reducing your heating bills and your Carbon Emissions.

Ground Source Heat Pumps

Ground Source Heat Pumps use energy naturally stored in the ground to heat your home and your hot water.  Unlike the Air Source Heat Pump they do need electricity although for every unit of electricity used to operate the Ground Source Heat Pump, it will produce five times as much heat energy.  Therefore the Ground Source Heat Pump reduces your energy bills and reduces your Carbon emissions.

Energy Saving Tips

Energy saving will cut down on your energy consumption and reduce your energy bills.

Following this checklist could save you a substantial amount of money on energy bills, reduce your CO2 and keep your home pleasantly-heated:

Loft Insulation - Effective loft insulation can reduce bills by up to 20% by preventing energy from escaping through the roof.

Cavity Wall Insulation - Older houses lose a significant amount of heat through their external walls. Cavity wall insulation can effectively prevent this.

Buy energy saving efficient devices - Modern technologies allow for the creation of products which are just as effective as their older counterparts, but use significantly less energy.

Wash your laundry at 30C - Modern washing detergents are designed to work well at lower temperatures. Studies show that energy saving by doing the washing at thirty degrees is no less effective than at forty for lightly-stained clothes.

Draw your curtains at dusk - During the day, keeping the curtains open helps heat the house. At night, keep them shut to keep heat indoors.

Avoid drying clothes on radiators - It lowers the room temperature and severely impairs energy saving by making your boiler work harder.

Install energy efficient light bulbs - They are just as bright as standard bulbs, but last a lot longer and are far better for energy saving. While they’re a little more expensive, they easily pay for themselves over their lifespan.

Only boil as much water as you need - When cooking vegetables, only use enough to cover them, and when boiling a kettle only use a teacup’s worth.

Don’t leave appliances on standby - Turn them off at the plug instead. Appliances still use power when in standby, and the cumulative effect of this can be fairly expensive.

Turning your thermostat  down - By just 1 degree can knock 10% off your energy bill, and you probably won’t feel the difference.

Fit your boiler with a new insulating jacket -The energy saving means it’ll pay for itself within months.
